The best colleges in India for research

There was a time when the world acknowledged the research initiatives of only the various chapters of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in India. However, gone are those days, when one had to compete with the best of the best in academics, to vouch for a seat in the IITs to be able to do worthwhile research! Credible research institutes, both privately and government funded, have garnered appreciation across academia. The following provides a brief list of the colleges that have become known for their research performance over the years.

All these IITs are known for their research-oriented approach, and their faculties are some of the best in the business as notable published researchers.

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR):
Started in 1945, TIFR has been steadily moving up the rankings as one of the best research institutions in India. TIFR boasts of one of the best faculties with the best reputations in the research world, who also are active alumni of the institute, striving toward providing better alternatives for research in various fields of science and technology. As a testament to the technical prowess of TIFR, the first computer developed in India was built at TIFR.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc):
IISc has achieved the status of one of the premier research organizations in India. Established in 1909 in Bengaluru, IISc has research collaborations with various academic institutions and industries, providing larger scope and scale of undertaking research in India.

The abovementioned institutes are some of the many alternatives available in India. Other versatile institutes either having specific research-oriented courses or providing blanket courses offering different combinations of research subjects have been established in various parts of the country. Some of these organizations are the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS, Pilani), The Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and so on.
